An original girder climber on our Arcade shelf. Gordo the gorilla owns the top of this construction tower and rolls barrels, crates and fire drums down every ramp. You are the worker with the hard hat: run the girders, climb the ladders, jump the barrels, grab a hammer when he gets rude, and reach his platform. Twelve hand-tuned towers — including two rivet towers — plus the endless Ascent.

How to play — the exact rules on this tower
Goal: start at the bottom girder and reach the striped gate beside Gordo at the top. He retreats up the tower and the girders rearrange. In a rivet tower (Levels 5 and 10), walk over all eight glowing rivets instead — the platform drops out from under him.
Move: hold the left or right side of the tower, the ◀ ▶ pads, or the arrow keys. Climb with the ▲ ▼ pads, W/S, or by holding up/down on a ladder. Jump with the big JUMP pad, a swipe up on the tower, or Space. A clean jump over a barrel pays 100 points.
Barrels: Gordo rolls wooden barrels first, then crates (wide and slow), steel drums (quick), and fire drums (quick and mean). They follow the ramps downhill, drop off edges, and on later towers they roll down ladders too. One touch costs a life — you carry three, and you respawn where you fell, briefly flashing and untouchable, with the barrels near you cleared away.
The hammer: grab it and for seven seconds every barrel you touch smashes for 150 points. The classic catch: your hands are full, so you cannot climb a ladder until it fades. Plan the floor you're on.
Fruit: cherries, melons and starfruit sit on the risky lines — 300 to 500 points for the detour.
Ascent mode: endless towers, faster every floor. Your height is the floors climbed; your score keeps running.

Barrel Ascent
Gordo is at the top and the barrels are already rolling. Run, climb, jump — and if you find a hammer, introduce it to his inventory.

About Barrel Ascent
Every construction site has one worker who knows which ladder creaks and one foreman who should not be allowed near the inventory. Barrel Ascent turns that feud into a tower. Gordo is not a mascot pasted onto a climbing game: he is the source of every hazard, standing at the top platform, winding up each barrel before it rattles down the girders toward you. The route is readable at a glance — ramps lean the way barrels roll, ladders are the only way up, and the striped gate at the top is always the promise.
The twelve towers rearrange more than their paint. Gaps open in the girders, crates widen the danger, steel drums quicken it, fire drums punish a lazy jump, and barrels begin using the ladders themselves. Twice, the job changes completely: on a rivet tower, reaching Gordo is not the answer — pulling the tower's eight glowing rivets is. The endless Ascent then removes the ceiling and asks the only question left: how many girders high can you get?
Quick tips
Read the slope before you run. A girder that leans right sends its barrels right; crossing one uphill buys you time, crossing it downhill spends it.
Jump late, not early. A barrel is only dangerous at your feet — leave the girder when its rim is a step away and you will land behind it with 100 points for the nerve.
Never grab the hammer on the wrong floor. Seven seconds is a long time to be unable to climb, so take it when the floor still owes you barrels, not when the ladder is the whole plan.
On ladder-drop towers, the ladder mouth is a second ramp. Wait a beat before climbing through a crossing barrel's rhythm.
Fruit is a detour tax you charge Gordo. Take it when the tower is quiet; leave it when three drums are negotiating the same girder.
Frequently asked questions
Is online Barrel Ascent free here?
Yes — free in your browser, no download, no signup, and no account needed.
How do I climb ladders?
Stand on a ladder's girder and hold ▲, W or Arrow Up. Hold ▼ to climb back down. While the hammer is in your hands, ladder climbing is disabled until it fades.
How many levels are there?
Twelve hand-tuned towers, including rivet towers at Levels 5 and 10, plus the endless Ascent mode with a height record.
What happens when a barrel touches me?
You lose one of three lives and respawn at the bottom girder, briefly invulnerable, with barrels near the spawn cleared away. With the hammer active, touching a barrel smashes it for points instead.
Who is Gordo?
Gordo is this game's original gorilla foreman — a big cartoon ape with a tower, an inventory of barrels and absolutely no intention of sharing the roof.
